On the current situation in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

The opinions expressed in this article are my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of affiliates and associates.

First of all, I would like to explicitly state that I strongly condemn the military dictatorship in Myanmar and call for a return to civilian governments and increased human rights for ethnic minorities in the country.

In a few days, almost three months will have passed since the theft of power by the illegitimate president of the Union Myint Swe in a coup that overthrew the government of the union.

On February 1, 2021, the armed forces of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar carried out a coup against the Burmese people and their country in which they detained dozens of ministers of state, including the president of the republic. Win Myint and State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi. The leaders were arrested, the institutions were attacked and the people are furious. In fact, their peaceful demonstrations have continued almost non-stop since the coup occurred on February 1.

Why did the coup occur? The country's armed forces - those that committed the atrocities against the Rohingya in Rakhine state and against other ethnic minorities - believed that the elections had been stolen from their preferred political candidate, Myint Swe, and the Union Party, Solidarity. and Development, an extremist party of the radical right.

And they still believe this baseless claim.

The civilian government of the National League for Democracy won the elections only to have them stolen in the coup. Both the people and the military know that this is the truth that the rightists have no legitimate right to power, that their military government is a sham and that the people will not accept the military dictatorship. People around the world should support the people of Myanmar and denounce the dictatorship.

We have to share what is happening to the people of the country and do it so that everyone can see what is happening, know the seriousness of the crimes of the dictatorship and work with the Burmese people to regain legitimate civil government.

Reliable sources of information

To better understand this situation, do not trust the military government. Below are some reliable sources that I have found. This list will be updated over time.
